Northern Weather, is a coffee roastery by Neal Binstead.
Once an old umbrella factory in Penistone, Yorkshire.
Now a coffee roastery, powered by wind and solar, but mostly humans.
Through the big windows: flowers, pigeons, sometimes llamas. Mostly Northern Weather.
Most things are out of focus, except deliveries. We like deliveries, especially when green coffee arrives from far away countries. We check it, roast it, check it again, bag it and send it back out.
Farmers. Exporters. Importers. Dealers. Couriers.
Many hands. Many miles.
The world’s favourite habit.
Local coffee logistics.
A public service.
Serious about the coffee. Relaxed about most other things.
You can buy a bag or two, or set up a subscription, in our web shop. Pop it on the plastic here.

A Change in The Weather
After 347 Mondays, Field Day is becoming Northern Weather.
A new name and a slightly different outlook. It took a little longer than expected.
We buy good coffee and roast it carefully.
We don’t have a rule about blends. single origins, micro lots, or filter versus espresso. We’re not trying to build a hierarchy where one coffee is more important because it’s rarer, more expensive or comes in a smaller sack.
Every coffee has a job.
Some coffee needs to be dependable, sweet and brilliant with milk. Some needs to be bright. Some floral. Some fruity. Occasionally something turns up that’s completely bonkers.
We find good coffees for those jobs and roast them accordingly. The coffees themselves change. The jobs don’t have to.
We give them names, sometimes sensible, sometimes not so sensible. Because it’s more interesting than giving them numbers.
The bag & label tells you the basics. If you want to know the full story, scan the QR code, head to the website and we’ll tell you everything we know.
We take the coffee seriously. Ourselves, considerably less so.
That’s Northern Weather.
